Junior Controller

Progressive Auto Group is a growing automotive organization committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences across our dealerships throughout Southwestern Ontario.

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and hands-on Junior Controller to join the team at Progressive Ford in Wallaceburg.

Reporting to the Group Controller, this role plays a key part in the day-to-day accounting operations of the dealership while developing the skills and experience required to grow into a Controller position. The successful candidate will work closely with dealership leadership and the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and efficient dealership operations.

This position is based in Wallaceburg, with occasional travel to our Sarnia dealerships for training, collaboration, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Maintain and reconcile the dealership general ledger
  • Post new and used vehicle deals accurately and on time
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare monthly OEM financial statements
  • Ensure accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls are consistently followed

Accounts Payable

  • Enter vendor invoices and bills of sale
  • Process accounts payable payments and cheque runs
  • Reconcile supplier statements
  • Pay and track recurring expenses including utilities, credit cards, and other operating expenses

Accounts Receivable

  • Process customer payments and maintain accurate receivable records
  • Issue monthly customer statements
  • Monitor outstanding accounts and assist with collections as required
  • Reconcile customer and manufacturer receivable accounts

Banking & Cash Management

  • Process and reconcile EFTs, wire payments, and electronic deposits
  • Assist with dealership banking activities and cash controls
  • Process lien payouts and OEM-related financial transactions

Operational Support

  • Post daily sales and service tills
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of dealership transactions
  • Support month-end reporting and financial analysis
  • Assist with process improvements and special accounting projects
  • Work collaboratively with dealership leadership to support operational performance
  • Provide backup support across accounting functions as required

Qualifications

  • Accounting diploma or degree preferred
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred (automotive dealership experience is an asset)
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles
  • Experience with dealership management systems considered an advantage
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn, take ownership, and grow within the organization

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation Range: $45,000–$65,000 annually (based on experience)
